Origin

The Matorka Arctic char or Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus) belongs to the genus of char (Salvelinus). It comes from sustainable, land-based aquaculture in Grindavik Iceland.
The Arctic char is bred responsibly with the utmost care and taking into account the welfare of the fish and environmental protection . The health of the fish and the protection of our environment are our top priority. The char receive a first-class, sustainable and GMO-free diet. To ensure that the fish grow up in a stress-free environment, the production systems have been specially developed. These systems minimize visual and physical contact with humans, enable natural schooling behavior , and ensure a powerful, circular current that supports healthy fish movement . The amount of water used for aquaculture consists of collected precipitation and natural snowmelt. The water is filtered and heated by the volcanic lava beds that make up the landscape in Iceland. 100% clean geothermal electricity is used for all production.
