Around 33 percent of global fish stocks are now affected by overfishing. The use of methods such as trawling results in significant bycatch and damages seabeds. Aquacultures that use chemicals and antibiotics are not proving to be a suitable alternative. In supermarkets, certifications are intended to help provide information about environmentally friendly fishing and transparent supply chains.
