The king crab is often referred to as the monster crab due to its sheer size and comes from the ice-cold and deep waters of Norway. The king crab is considered a sustainable seafood choice because it would spread invasively without human intervention and upset the ecological balance. The stock can be regulated by targeted extraction in compliance with strict fishing quotas.  

 

From a culinary point of view, the king crab is prized in high-end gastronomy for its special flavor profile. Its light flesh and uniquely intense, sweet-nutty taste are reminiscent of the rough sea of Norway. The cooked king crab is ideal for seafood beginners as it is already fully cooked and cut in half.

Rather, we rely on the most modern processing and freezing methods to ensure unparalleled quality and practical handling. 

 

The meat of king crabs is characterized by its uniquely sweet yet savory taste, which is optimally preserved by the fishing and freezing methods. Thanks to their high protein content and low fat content, king crabs are an excellent choice for a healthy diet. The pre-cooked crab legs are very easy to prepare: Depending on the recipe, all you have to do is defrost them, heat them briefly if necessary and enjoy.   • The quick version - for those who decide at short notice: If you are in a hurry, it is possible to defrost this product in a water bath within 1 hour. The water should be cold to lukewarm.

Origin

The king crab, with the Latin term Paralithodes camtschaticus, is caught in the Barents Sea (FAO 27. 1) with pots and traps. In the 1960s, it was introduced there specifically to improve the regional food supply. Due to the lack of natural enemies in its new habitat, it spread rapidly and began to displace the native sea creatures. In response, measures have been taken, including the establishment of controlled catch quotas, to control the growth of the population.  Despite these challenges, the king crab is considered a particularly sustainable choice. Their catch is strictly monitored and regulated to maintain ecological balance and minimize impact on the environment. The fleet consists of small fishing boats that travel only short distances between the fishing area and the port.
