Its mysterious aura and culinary versatility make it a treasure among sea creatures. The octopus is also called pulpo or octopus, in the plural you can choose between two forms: octopods or octopuses. Join us as we descend into the depths of the sea to discover the octopuses that will enrich your next culinary adventure. Let's find out together why this fascinating sea creature is not only a delicacy, but will also broaden your seafood horizons.

Octopuses have eight flexible arms that are covered with suction cups. These arms make them skilled hunters and give them the ability to adapt to different prey. With a number of eight arms, octopods have three hearts and nine brains. They have a tender, juicy flesh with a mild, slightly sweet taste. The texture varies depending on the preparation method, from soft to tender and rubbery.

Octopuses come in different species, whose appearance can vary from pale pink to reddish brown to purple. The octopus adapts its color to its surroundings to camouflage itself.

The octopus can be found in various waters around the world. Their habitat ranges from shallow coastal waters to great depths in the ocean. They prefer rocky substrates, caves and coral reefs where they can camouflage themselves perfectly. Their excellent camouflage skills not only help them to hide from predators, but also to hunt successfully.

Most octopuses are loners and lead a solitary life, usually in the hiding places on the seabed or between corals. These solitary animals are often territorial and defend their territory aggressively against intruders. Usually they only meet other octopuses for mating.

In terms of their diet, octopuses are highly intelligent hunters. They are opportunistic predators that feed on a variety of prey, including fish, crustaceans, mussels and other molluscs. With their strong arms and suction cups, they can quickly grab and hold on to their prey. Octopuses are known for their skillful hunting technique, in which they sneak up quietly and strike at lightning speed.

Their developed intelligence also enables them to solve complex problems in order to obtain food. They are known to be able to open containers to get at their prey, and they can also use tools to get at hard-to-reach food.

Octopuses are not only delicious, but also rich in proteins, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B12 and minerals such as iron and potassium. They are a healthy choice for your meals.
