We source the meat of the forest pigs from a small family business in Rosenheim. What began as a research project for a dissertation on the behavior, animal health and meat quality of domestic pigs in the forest has now developed into a modern large-scale project on 20 hectares of pasture forest. Pasture forests are forests that are used as pasture for livestock and avoid the costly clearing and creation of grassland. The forest pigs live at three locations in Bavaria, and another location near Magdeburg is already in the starting blocks. The Bavarian organic forest pigs grow up from an early age in the pasture forests with forest and pasture land, which offer each animal 500-1000m² of space in which it can move freely and pursue its natural behavior such as rooting and exploring. The forest pigs are the result of the combination of historical, animal-friendly husbandry and modern knowledge in feeding and husbandry, combined with the pig breed known for its meat quality and robustness: the Swabian-Halle forest pigs.
