Visually, the 'Greenshell Mussle' from the mussel family is a real beauty. The greenshell mussel owes its name to its appearance. The dark green, smooth shell is lined with yellow, red and brown stripes, while the inner shell is iridescent and shiny. The plump mussel meat has a creamy white to tender orange color, depending on its gender. It has a sweet flavour and can be prepared in a variety of ways. The green mussel: a delicious alternative to the common mussel

The greenshell mussel, also known as the green-lipped mussel or "New Zealand mussel", has an intense, sweet, slightly nutty flavour and a delicate texture. Due to their similar shape and flavour, they could easily be mistaken for the common mussel. Although the two mussels are related, the greenshell mussel is its own species. These healthy mussels are very versatile when it comes to preparation. They can be baked, grilled or fried, but also steamed or smoked. They also make a great gratinated dish in our recipe gratinated green shell mussels with a homemade saffron aioli.

Perfect for:

Spicy Dips

Currys
