Product description

Visually, the 'Greenshell Mussle' from the mussel family is a real beauty. The dark green shell is lined with yellow, red and brown stripes, while the inner shell has an iridescent shine. The plump Mussel meat has a creamy white to delicate orange color, depending on the gender. Greenshell Mussels are grown in the wild in the clean, nutrient-rich waters of the Marlborough Sounds on the north coast of New Zealand.

This unique maritime ecosystem forms the ideal habitat for the mussels and gives them their characteristic taste. The mussels are carefully selected and grown in specially designed farms. They are given enough space to grow and are constantly surrounded by fresh sea water. Thanks to this natural breeding method, the green mussels develop an intense taste and a delicate texture . They are rich in nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, iron and vitamins. We attach great importance to quality and sustainability. The mussels are carefully harvested, cleaned and packaged to preserve their freshness and quality.

Origin

In order to protect wild populations, it is forbidden to collect mussels. The molluscs are therefore bred appropriately in aquaculture, more precisely in the nutrient-rich waters of the Marlborough Sounds on the north coast of the island of New Zealand in large tanks. The sustainable Seafood won the “Best Choice” award from the Monterey Bay Aquarium. In Latin terms the mussel is called Perna canaliculus .
