La Narval sardines in olive oil show just how much flavour can be packed into a small tin. Small, firm sardines are hand-cleaned and cooked before being packed in mild olive oil, without any unnecessary additives. This creates a savoury, maritime flavour with a pleasant richness rarely found in canned fish. Serve them pure on toasted bread, in a salad with olives and tomatoes, or as the basis for a quick pasta dish – with just a few ingredients, you can create a dish with real character.

Product description

Sardines in olive oil from the portuguese coast

For its sardines, La Narval relies on Portuguese coastal fleets that still fish in a traditional, artisanal way, strictly adhering to the applicable catch quotas. After being caught, each sardine is cleaned and cooked by hand before being placed in the tin – a time-consuming process that pays off in texture and taste: The flesh remains firm yet tender, and the mild olive oil carries the maritime aroma without overpowering it.
The sardines best unfold their full flavor at room temperature. Traditionally, you can enjoy them on toasted sourdough bread or as part of a tapas platter with olives and pickled vegetables. They are also excellent in a quick pasta with garlic, chili, and a little lemon, as well as in a summer salad with tomatoes and red onions. Since they are already cooked, you hardly need more than what you already have in your kitchen for a harmonious dish.

Origin

Sardines, scientifically known as Sardina pilchardus, are caught in the Northeast Atlantic (FAO 27) by artisanal Portuguese coastal fleets in strict compliance with fishing quotas.
The sardines are processed by La Narval in the Ría de Arousa in northwest Spain – a Galician coastal region with a long tradition of fishing and canning. The proximity to the fishing grounds allows for daily fresh processing, which best preserves the texture and taste of the sardines. La Narval's colorful cans have long since become a hallmark of the manufacturer.
