For every euro donated, 3.7 kg of waste is removed from beaches and rivers. In order to present this transparently , we work with the German company Klimahelden, who independently track the project and the donation income and handle the processing transparently. With your donation you will receive a donation certificate from Klimahelden (not a donation receipt). On our donation page you will find further information about the purpose of the donation, how we are trying to counteract the pollution of our oceans and how your donation will reach where it is urgently needed.

Our world's oceans and rivers are heavily polluted with plastic. In many countries with poor waste management, which are also often among the poorer regions of the world, garbage ends up in streams and rivers and inevitably drifts into the open sea. There, the waste pollutes coasts and beaches, but also the seabed and forms large islands in the open sea, which has a significant impact on the sea and its inhabitants. Fish and turtles become entangled in the floating parts or consume them as food, which often leads to their death. In addition, the plastic decomposes in seawater and under the influence of the sun until it turns into microplastics that can be ingested by humans and animals.

In order to preserve the habitat for animals and humans, it is essential to remove waste from rivers and seas and dispose of it properly.

The non-profit association Sana Mare combines environmental protection with help for self-help. The international environmental organization implements cleanup projects and waste collection points on site in poor regions of Africa and Asia. At the same time, it supports the local population through fair pay and the opportunity to earn money independently. On the one hand, the waters are cleared of rubbish, and on the other hand, perspectives and earning opportunities are created for the locals. She is also involved in educational work in schools and other institutions, both locally and in Germany. Welcome to the core of the project. Under the heading “Ingredients” we present you an essential ingredient for a more sustainable world: your donation. You can choose the amount of your donation (€1) as many times as you like. For every euro donated, 3.7 kg of waste is removed from beaches and rivers. The donation amount is collected via our independent partner Klimahelden and donated as a total amount, which is why you will not receive a receipt. However, you will be issued a donation certificate that you will receive as confirmation and thank you for your donation.

Origin

The origins of our commitment are deeply rooted in global responsibility for our planet. Let’s take a closer look at the origins of the plastic waste problem and the role we all play in it. It is undisputed that plastic waste generated on our land can enter the ocean via rivers and canals, where it remains for decades. Added to this is the problematic practice of exporting waste from industrialized countries to the global south, which not only represents a more cost-effective "disposal" than professional recycling in the country in which the waste was produced, but also means that the problem is relocated. We are all involved in the creation of plastic waste, so we should also get involved in its disposal! In the fight against these challenges Sana Mare not only calls for people to produce less waste, but also actively removes existing plastic from water bodies. However, their mission goes beyond the environment - the association combines plastic removal with poverty alleviation to create clean waters and sustainable livelihoods for local people.
