Product description

Sea urchin roe from sustainable harvest

Unifresco sea urchin roe is obtained from the red sea urchin that lives off the coast of Vancouver. The animals are harvested by hand by independent divers, with particular attention being paid to protecting the surrounding marine life. Strict regulations are also observed during processing and no treatments with bleach or similar are used. The quality of sea urchin roe has been recognized by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program and the Oceanwise program, among others.

The sea urchin roe will probably not win a beauty contest. However, the inner values are what counts anyway - which is the incomparable and characteristic taste of the rare delicacy.

Uni - delicacy of Japanese cuisine

Uni is characterized by a salty-sweet taste and the scent of sea air. Sea urchin caviar is particularly found in Japanese cuisine, where it is popular as an ingredient in sushi or chirashi bowls. For inspiration, try our recipe for sushi with maki and gunkan.

But the unique delicacy is also appreciated in the Mediterranean region, for example with pasta or risotto.

Tip: The so-called “Uni Juice”, i.e. the liquid in which the roe is marinated, is ideal for cooking due to its intense, salty taste.
