Organic forest pig in unique quality


What began as a research project for a dissertation on the behavior, animal health and meat quality of domestic pigs in the forest has now developed into a modern and future-oriented large-scale project. Organic forest pigs now live under species-appropriate conditions on around 20 hectares of pasture forest at three locations in Bavaria. Each pig has 500 to 1,000 m² of space to move freely, root and live out its natural behavior. A fourth location near Magdeburg is already being planned to further expand this innovative concept. The result of careful breeding and husbandry can be seen in every bite: the meat of the Bavarian organic forest pig impresses with a juicy, firm meat structure and a pure, unadulterated taste - quality features that reflect the close connection to nature, the careful husbandry of the animals and the environmentally friendly way of doing business.

Origin

We get the meat of the forest pigs from a small family business in Rosenheim. What began as a research project for a dissertation on the behavior, animal health and meat quality of domestic pigs in the forest has now developed into a modern large-scale project on 20 hectares of pasture forest. Pasture forests are forests that are used as pasture for livestock and avoid the costly clearing and creation of grassland. The forest pigs live at three locations in Bavaria, and another location near Magdeburg is already in the starting blocks. The Bavarian organic forest pigs live in the pasture forests with forest and pasture land, which offer each animal 500-1000m² of space in which it can move freely and pursue its natural behavior such as rooting and exploring.
