KEY FACTS ABOUT SHRIMP

Shrimp are the most popular crustaceans not only in Germany but worldwide. In common usage they are often called “crabs”.
This is wrong: Crabs are short-tailed crabs, whereas shrimp are long-tailed crabs. Shrimp form a widespread family. The 2,000 to 3,000 shrimp species that exist are classified according to size and habitat.
Commercially, although not uniformly internationally, shrimp are referred to as “gamba”, “shrimp” and “prawn” and, depending on their size, are also given additional names such as “giant”, “king” or “tiger”. A distinction is also made between warm and cold water shrimp as well as saltwater and freshwater shrimp. With us you can buy some of the best shrimp online and find great recipes and tips for preparation.

Frequently asked questions about shrimp

Can you eat the intestines of a fresh shrimp?

Yes. In order to be able to deliver the shrimp with the intestines as free of residue as possible, we reduce the food supply shortly before we remove the shrimp from our sustainable farm. This means that the shrimp can also be eaten with the intestines safely.

Can the peel stay on while cooking?

Yes. For the most intense taste experience possible, it is even recommended to prepare the shrimp with the shell on - this way it stays nice and juicy. Ideally, you should open the shrimp with a knife along the back before cooking or frying. This ensures that spice flavors penetrate the shrimp meat more easily.

How do I remove the intestines from a shrimp?

To remove the intestines from a shrimp, cut the animal along the back and then pull the intestines out. This cut offers two further advantages: on the one hand, it is easier for you to remove the shell later, and on the other hand, the opening of the shell allows spice aromas to penetrate the shrimp meat better.

Is it still safe to eat fresh shrimp the day after cooking?

Yes, provided that you store the shrimp in a cool place in the meantime. If this is guaranteed, consumption is completely safe. And that's not all: Similar to fish, the fresh shrimp have the opportunity to develop their full aroma overnight. This means they offer an even more intense taste the next day.

How long does it take to receive my order after purchasing online?

How long it takes to receive your fresh shrimp after ordering depends on what time of the day you order them. If you order by 2 p.m., you will usually receive your goods the next morning. This excludes orders placed on Saturdays or public holidays.
