Prepare shrimp properly
Of course, the perfect shrimp enjoyment also includes the correct preparation of the crustaceans. First you have to thaw them safely and, depending on the method of preparation, remove the shell, head and intestines if necessary. We have summarized how you can easily do this yourself in our step by step guides.
This is the best way to prepare your shrimp
Whether you want to fry your prawns in the pan, roast them on the grill, deep-fry them or eat them as sashimi, with our tips you will succeed in the perfect preparation of the delicious crustaceans in no time.
Fry shrimp in the pan
Can it be crispy? Then enjoy your shrimp crispy and fried in the pan. The following applies: less is more - fry them over medium heat for a maximum of 30 seconds per side. To protect the tender meat, you can also fry them in their shells and then peel them. Fried shrimp are suitable as a main dish, such as shrimp with chili and garlic , or as an ingredient in shrimp tacos, risotto or salad.
Preparing shrimp on the grill
Since the shrimp is exposed to high heat when grilling, it is recommended to grill them in their shells. Larger shrimp are ideal because they don't fall through the grill. Our favorite are glazed shrimp, the perfect combination of spicy marinade and the delicate aroma of the crustaceans. If you're looking for more tips, you'll find them on our How to grill shrimp.
When do I know my shrimp is perfectly fried?
You can easily tell whether your shrimp is perfectly fried by its shape: if it's wide open, it still needs some time. It is perfectly cooked in a C shape. If it already curls into an O, you have fried it for too long.
Deep-fry shrimp
Maybe not the healthiest choice, but definitely worth the sin. Confected or fried shrimp are fried as is or in a batter in hot fat for a few minutes. There are countless variations when it comes to the dough, for example tempura shrimp or a beer batter with sweet mustard dip to match the Bavarian shrimp.
Eat shrimp raw as sashimi
If you want to enjoy your shrimp raw, it is particularly important that it is of sashimi quality and that you eat it immediately after thawing. For our fresh Bavarian shrimp, we recommend eating raw up to 3 days after the date of fishing. Enjoy the sashimi shrimp plain with a little soy sauce, in sushi or as a fine carpaccio.
Dips and side dishes for shrimp
Of course, the right accompaniment is a must for the perfect shrimp enjoyment.
