Fish in the airfryer?
The good news is that there are many types of fish that are ideal for preparation in the airfryer. On the one hand, firm, white fish such as cod, skrei or pollack are particularly suitable. Salmon fillets are also excellent in the airfryer - they become nice and crunchy on the outside while remaining wonderfully tender on the inside - just like in our salmon tacos, for example.
In addition to fish fillets, breaded fish - such as fish & chips or homemade fish fingers - is also very popular, as the breading becomes nice and crispy in the airfryer and you don't need as much oil as when frying in a pan.

What about seafood?
It's not just fish that becomes a real treat in the airfryer - various types of seafood, such as pre-cooked octopus arms or king crab legs, are also perfect for your airfryer. It is important that this seafood is not completely raw, but pre-cooked - luckily, you can find exactly that here at HONEST CATCH. Of course, prawns also become super juicy and crispy when you prepare them in the airfryer. Simply marinate them and pop them in - for example, in an Asian style with coconut rice.
If you like it particularly crispy: breaded seafood is also wonderful in the airfryer. Breadcrumbs or panko flour are the perfect choice here and you can conjure up airfryer classics such as breaded calamari or crispy shrimp in no time at all.

Success guaranteed!
The airfryer is generally regarded as a very uncomplicated kitchen gadget. For maximum seafood enjoyment, we have eight small, but excellent tips for you here:
Tip #1: Dab the fish fillet or seafood dry first: a moist surface prevents browning!
Tip #2: The right combination of heat & time: Here it depends on what exactly you are preparing in the airfryer. While fish fillets tend to benefit from slower cooking at a slightly lower temperature of around 180 °C, higher temperatures (190-200 °C) and shorter cooking times (approx. 5-8 minutes) are ideal for seafood such as shrimp.
Tip #3: Place the fish with the skin side up: this makes it nice and crispy and protects the tender meat from direct heat.
Tip #4: Use baking paper with holes or a silicone mat: This will prevent delicate fish fillets or fine pieces of seafood from sticking to the grid. And without blocking the hot air circulation.
Tip #5: Don't overload: The rule here is: less is more! With the airfryer, air circulation is crucial. So cook your seafood in two batches rather than overfilling the basket.
Tip #6: Do not turn: Unlike in a pan, you don't need to turn fish or seafood in the airfryer. The cooking process is even and from all sides. This also prevents your fish from falling apart.
Tip #7: Spray breaded pieces with oil: When breading fish or seafood, it is best to use oil spray. This ensures golden-brown, crispy results.
Tip #8: Marinate before cooking: Marinate your fish or seafood before putting it in the airfryer. A marinating time of 10-15 minutes is completely sufficient.

Frequently asked questions about seafood from the airfryer
Can you put frozen products directly into the airfryer or do you have to defrost them first?
Yes, you can prepare many frozen products directly in the airfryer, which saves time and is particularly convenient. Breaded items such as fish sticks, calamari or shrimp are excellent straight from the freezer, as the hot air makes them crispy evenly. For natural fish fillets, however, it is advisable to defrost them slightly beforehand. This ensures more even cooking, prevents a dry exterior and also allows you to season or marinate the fish before cooking.

Is it necessary to use oil or similar when preparing fish or seafood in the airfryer?
It is advisable to lightly spray or brush breaded pieces of fish or seafood with oil. This ensures that the breading is golden brown and crispy. Even with unbreaded products, a small drop of oil or a thin film from a spray can help to prevent drying out and lightly brown the surface.
How do I know if the fish is done in the airfryer?
A well-cooked fish is tender, juicy and no longer glassy on the inside. The flesh should be easy to cut with a fork and have a uniform matt color. For thicker fillets, you can carefully cut a piece.
How do I prevent fish from drying out in the airfryer?
Take care not to cook the fish for too long or at too high a temperature. You can also brush the fish with a little oil or butter or use a marinade that provides moisture - e.g. lemon, olive oil and herbs - or cover it with a piece of baking paper or cook it in a small ovenproof dish.
Why is my fish not becoming crispy in the airfryer?
